“Reimaging the IRB” Initiative

January 22, 2024

The depth and breadth of research conducted at Northeastern University is impressive and we know that our research portfolio will continue to grow over the years. For us to manage the diversity of human subject research (HSR), senior leadership is committed to supporting a strong foundation and stable infrastructure that reduces both investigator and operational burden.

We are excited to launch our “Reimaging the IRB” initiative. This initiative will be rolled out in several phases with the following goals:

  1. Implement an electronic system with submission, tracking, and reporting capabilities.
  2. Expand our training & education program to meet the needs of our stakeholders: investigators, IRB members, and research administrators.
  3. Developing a Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) program to ensure consistency in review process and business practices.

Promoting and fostering research efforts without compromise to research compliance and integrity is critical. In the past 18 months, we have already made several changes that impact our research community; but we recognize we still have a ways to go!

Happy 2024 to everyone! We look forward to working together as we meet our shared goals and will communicate our progress to our global campuses during this exciting initiative!
